if the leader of the labour party isn't a kind socialist gardener who the press convinces the public is a literal ss officer then it's a wet fart seen as "electable" because he wears a suit and sounds boring but has no public appeal, or it's the godfather of rupert murdoch's kid.
if we keep vying for an "electable" leader of the opposition, labour keep moving further and further to the center until it's suddenly on the right, and even then the papers will still say they're mao zedong resurrected. and at that point, will an "electable" leader be worth it?
electoral politics is a sham. sometimes it reaches a bubbling moment where it looks like *something* can be achieved, but 9 times out of 10 it'll get shut down because we don't really have any power. by all means vote if you feel able, but it's not where the focus should be rn.
instead of us all waiting for the next election, the next likely disappointment, the next blatant display of control that billionaires have over governments, we need to be helping other people out, if and when we have the energy to do so.
giving that homeless person who lives outside your local corner shop some cash to buy a sandwich, a pack of cigs, a can of booze, drugs, whatever the fuck it is they need to not feel worthless at the moment, can have just as much an impact if not more than one labour party flyer.
the last few decades of The Way Things Have Been is proof that we can't rely on the government for a lot of things right now, so take it into your own hands. get you and your co-workers unionized, get involved in your local mutual aid group or make one if it doesn't exist.
recognise how what's happening right now is fucking you and everyone else over the way a lot of other people have been fucked over for a long time. recognise that shared state of being fucked over. connect with the other people being fucked over. support each other. communalise.
