Filipinos need to deal with the fact that they probably DO NOT have any Hispanic ancestry and that it’s okay. Recent genetic studies show that only a tiny minority have European genetic markers. The average Filipino is more likely to have a Chinese ancestor than a Spanish one. https://twitter.com/niclepard/status/1252572361863266304
If Fil-Ams have their Islander fantasy, homeland Filipinos have Hispanic wetdreams—both products of colonialism. It’s okay to be indigenous. It’s okay to only have indigenous ‘Filipino’ ancestors. You don’t need to look “European” to be beautiful.
Yes, some Filipinos have some Spanish in them, some have Chinese, some have both, some have something else, some have none—and it’s okay to be any of those. I encourage everyone to appreciate and learn more about their roots, whichever tree or trees those roots come from.
