Why are psychiatric patients dying, are they being taken to hospital? Psychiatric system has never been set up for dealing with physical health illness. The nurses have limited training in physical health.

Drs on the wards doing physical checks are mainly F1 or F2 on rotation. There are never enough of them pre CVOID. You get 1 dr covering my local hospital OOH it’s around 160 patients.2 Acute units, 1 Picu, older people, assessment unit. How on earth would they deal with this.

Patients in hospital aren’t terminally, they are mostly being protected from themselves. Ironically they are dying due to C-19 and the fact that psych units couldn’t possibly deal with this. How can appropriate care happen in dormitories? Infections spread like wildfire pre C-19

I’ve seen patients getting sick from infections pre C-19. staff don’t known how to respond. Guy had sats. 89/90% Staff did nothing. He had pneumonia. He collapsed. He was in hospital a few weeks. If he had gone to GP as if he was in community he would have been sent to hospital

I have had near fatal asthma attacks more than once in a psych unit. Pre C-19. Each time they haven’t believed I am unwell. I have ended up in itu as a result. Clueless about physical health doesn’t explain how awful psych care is. This is why people are dying.

Psychiatric hospitals inability to deal with physical health issues is not a new thing. There are always virus/ infections going around wards. They thrive due to the environment. patients are dying as they are in these hospitals. Would they have been dead if they were at home?

I don’t understand why people aren’t angry about this. Anyone can find themselves in a psych ward. It is different to deaths in hospital. Patients aren’t physically sick to start with. They are dying because they were deemed a danger to themselves. Now the system is killing them.
