Always felt it is so much easier for men to "become religious" or don the cloak of piety because so much of it glorifies and accommodates them. Get multiple wives! Get more inheritance! Get lauded by society for performative devotion with no personal development!

Women who become religious have to actively justify losing their right to mobility, losing ownership of their bodies. They have to ideologically grapple with ideas that suppress them, been to so many religious lectures for young women seeking to genuinely become closer to Islam

The questions are always the same
Why sex slaves? Why 4 wives? Why no divorce? Why hijab? Why no abortions? Why domestic abuse? Why 72 hoors? Why marriage at puberty? Why no birth control? Why not equal pay for equal work? Why am I half of a man in court? Why more women in hell?

Reformist Islam is the ONLY OPTION for women because the dominant discourse doesn't ALLOW THEIR EXISTENCE. Men can still pivot between the dominant discourse and more reformist interpretation but women literally have no other option. The dominant discourse has never included them

Also not saying reformist Islam accommodates women entirely as well. Every "modern" scholar has tripped up somewhere Nouman Ali khan, Bilal Phillips you name it they have some fucked up, misogynistic lecture out there saying "beat women lightly"
