#BecauseOfStephen British institutions were forced to hold the mirror up to themselves and examine their own structural discrimination. Tireless campaigning by his family has given us so many tools to challenge and hold accountable the systems that are meant to protect us. /1

Sadly, we have a long way to go in the UK to truly understand the depths of systemic racism in this country and the many forms it takes. This year's #StephenLawrenceDay occurs in the middle of a pandemic where BAME people are disproprtionately dying. /2

We all must hold the mirror up to ourselves and our society, and continue to challenge the practices that led to such a tragedy 27 years ago and a subsequent failure of justice - failures that happen all too often today. /end
