I’m bored so I think I’m gonna make a thread about some of my favourite books
Circe by Madeline Miller
The story follows the goddess Circe, daughter of Helios. Much to the disappointment of her family, she is neither a great beauty, nor is she blessed with any of her fathers power. Until she discovers a power unique to her: witchcraft
After an act of defiance, Zues banishes her to the island of Aiaia. In her solitude, she learns to harness her power, drawing strength from nature. Despite her banishment, she crosses paths with the Minotaur, Ariadne, Jason, Theseus, Daedalus, Hermes & Odysseus
The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker
When you hear of the Trojan war, no doubt you envision Achilles, Odysseus, the Trojan horse, Helen and Paris. Now listen to the tale from the perspective of Briseis. A queen who was captured and gifted to Achilles as his war bride and slave
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
The Monster comes for Conor at 12:07. Between his mother’s new round of chemotherapy and the bullying, he has horrible nightmares, but of a monster much worse than this one.

“If you need to break things then by God you break them good and hard.”
Essentially, it’s a story about letting go, about being seen. It’s about speaking and embracing your truth, however horrid it may seem. Most importantly, it teaches you that vulnerability does not equate to weakness. Wanting an end to your pain does not make you a bad person
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
Miryem is the daughter of moneylenders. But her father’s inability to collect his debts has left his family impoverished- until Miryem takes over. She sets out to claim what is owed and soon gains a reputation for being able to turn silver into gold
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Is this Miller’s second entry to this thread? Yes. Does it deserve to be here? Absofreakinlutely. How much do I love this book? More than you can know.
