In recent years, videogame soundtracks have become less and less recognizable. The overall scores tried to emulate movie scores.
And don't get me wrong, there isn't anything inherently wrong with that.
It's perfectly fine if done well and often fits the mood. [1]
But it's rarely memorable or even unique.
Que in @Mick_Gordon and his approach to the DOOM (2016) score.
I highly recommend this GDC panel by him if you're interested what made this one stick out from the rest:
[2]
Gordon's approach wasn't so much *what* music to compose, but rather *how* to do it. Breaking several conventions in the process, creating tracks that check all the boxes: Memorable, unique and even hummable. [3]
He returned with DOOM Eternal (2020) and instead retreading steps, he yet again chose a drastically different approach with his "Heavy Metal Choir", perfectly complimenting the games more "mythological" feel and giving it some grandeur. [4]
The common consensus is, that both soundtracks are phenomenal, perfectly fitting their respective games tone and theme.
But with all good things, there's always a catch...
Both DOOM games share a common flaw:
They are both published by Bethesda Softworks... [5]
Bethesda has a pretty consistent track record of messing just about anything up their come in contact with in recent years.
Ranging from their games themselves to even stuff surrounding them, like merch or even PR. [6]
The DOOM games themselves came out pretty much unharmed, being developed by id Software rather than, say, Bethesda Game Studios.

But as it turns out, they at least managed to mess up the standalone release of DOOM Eternal's soundtrack... [7]

And the question remains: How the heck does Bethesda get so many 2nd. Chances while being so consistently bad at their job?
