Maybe I should tweet my experience of being exploited at Kayanja’s channel 44 so that they accuse me of being part of the people that are carrying out satan’s work to bring down the church 😆
After doing my internship there, the HR manager Gloria (I forget her other name) tells me to consider coming back to work after I am done with university. She follows up and calls me towards the end of my degree. Fast forward..degree ends and I show up for my first day at work.
I am not given my employment contract, just promised. Being fresh out of uni and desperate I just continue working. Every time I bring up the contract issue they tell you all sorts of stories. I ask around if other people are being paid. I am told some special ones are.
Also the criteria of who gets paid is unknown. The amount for the ones paid also keeps fluctuating (I was told). This months pay won’t be the same as next months 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Also the method of payment is undercover: you go into Mzee’s office and he hand you an envelope.
I keep working hoping to maybe get onto the special people’s list but waaa. So I start to look around for another job. Difficult as hell because on top of having no “experience” there is barely time to look because I reported at 5.45am and left in the evening.
Meanwhile during this time I would at times attend their evening services and see people giving more and more money to the ministry and I am like 🌚. I eventually decided to pull the plug. Took me years but I did. Was scared of being unemployed but living like this was worse.
I asked to speak to the station manager then (Saltray Lubega) and inform him that I will be leaving. He asked me, “Have you deeply sought God about this issue?” 🙄🙄🙄 like it’s God that hired me pssst. Even the few friends I had made tried to talk me out of my decision.
They would say things like, “Even us Mzee doesn’t pay us but he can randomly do nice things for us. He can buy us things, pick us to travel with him for crusades etc. luckily, my mind was made up. I was done. I just couldn’t get why people kept giving to this ministry.
A year after quitting Mrs. Kayanja calls me and said that she has just found out that I had left and hoped that I wasn’t offended in any way. Brief history: She knows my parents and she was the one that had made the internship possible.
As of now all the people that had told me to hang on have all left. I am glad I left before I had wasted my prime working years being exploited in the guise of ministry. The END
