JOHN is a former indentured farmhand from Pith, Oregon, setting out in search of an escape from his past. He loves animals of all shapes and sizes, but especially cows. He has no surname to speak of - not that he speaks very much to begin with.

CODY ALLISON is a travelling busker from Oregon, on the run from a debt he can’t repay to the gang he used to run with. His two most prized possessions are his motorbike and his guitar. As of recently, he’s missing the pinky and ring fingers on his left hand.

FRIDAY WILMOT is one of the most popular lounge singers and burlesque dancers at the Ace of Spades nightclub in Vegas, as well as one of the best gamblers in the house. She’s also the unofficial den mother of the girls living in the boarding house above the Ace.

VALERIE LECTER was raised in a nunnery in New Orleans, and now runs a small parish on the outskirts of Vegas, where he tries to encourage gamblers and thieves to turn over a new leaf. He’s been a good friend of Friday’s ever since she paid for a full renovation on his church.

ETHAN ROUSE is an Oregon native, the leader of the Dead-Eyes Gang, and Cody’s best friend since they were young - though he’s now out to get Cody at any cost. He’s a charismatic, born leader who prefers to solve his problems with guns and knives rather than rational conversation.

LADY is the mysterious and enigmatic head of Hemisphere, the crime syndicate that acts as benefactor towards most other criminal organizations in the United States, and is something of a ruling body for the country. Very little is known about Lady, including her real name.

JOHANNES MADSEN is the ringmaster of the Madsen & Graves Traveling Circus, a con artistry and pickpocketing operation performing up and down the East Coast under the guise of a more-or-less regular circus. He’s loud, brash, and obnoxious, down to his fashion sense.

EZRA GRAVES is Johannes’s adopted brother, and the resident musician of the Madsen & Graves Circus. He tends the be the more cool-headed of the two, with more reservations about putting the circus into danger - including the deals they’re currently cutting with Hemisphere.

ENIS GRAVES is the Madsen & Graves Circus’s mechanic, a former indentured farmhand who literally ran away to join the circus, and was welcomed enthusiastically into the family. Lacking one of his own, he took Ezra’s surname as a sign of solidarity.
