I'm kind of tempted to upgrade my RAM to GLAM. When I first started building computers I was so sad that most aftermarket PC cases/parts were either industrial-boring or impersonating transformer robots, so I'm ready for parts not black/red/blue. I like sparkly, colorful things.
Reminds me - I had a software developer ask me about building a computer, and he ordered RAM that wouldn't fit in his mini-ATI case. I told him to return it, and definitely NOT to pry the heat sink off the RAM, but alas. He ignored me and pried it with a BUTTER KNIFE.
RIP, RAM.
That story will always remind me that there's a difference between deep subject matter expertise, and wider field expertise. Intelligence does not ensure wisdom, either.
Also, sometimes people won't trust your field expertise if they believe they're smarter than you are.
Speaking of disappointing (yet very expensive) computer cases, here's one! It looks like a friggin' bicycle helmet.
Does it not have a back? It couldn't possibly be quiet. It looks like it would attract all the dust, dirt, debris, and despair in a 100-yard radius.
This one: LOL. Has EARS, looks like a reclaimed 10-disc CD changer from the back of a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that was resting peacefully in economy parking for last 20 yrs. Mad at being disturbed by you, retaliates by shooting Mariah Carey CDs at your face while you play Overwatch.
I can't stop, they're all too funny. This one is called "Snow Helicopter," which I kinda get...but you know what it actually looks like?
This is why websites/ advertisers have hilariously wrong ideas of what I want as a consumer. One time I spent several hours researching if I could purchase my ideal cloak (yes, the kind mages wear). It needed to be velvet, internally lined, with pockets (duh). Dunno if I found it
This thread probably makes me seem like a hater, but it's really love of weird things. To me, it's way better for something to be weird than to be mundane. Weird is interesting and fun, and I love it a little even if it's not something I love enough to buy or keep.
