playing final fantasy in HDR flipped an invisible bit on the TV, not exposed to the UI

there's a bunch of audio hardware BETWEEN the framemeister and the tv, which stopped receiving audio bc the tv broke everything UPSTREAM OF ITSELF

how do, like, normal people even watch tv

if you plug any hdmi device into any other hdmi device you have like a 20% chance of it even doing anything at all

I mean *I* can solve this issues because I'm a Giant Dweeb, but like...... most people aren't? how is this tenable

like 95% of folks who bought a 4k HDR TV bc it looked great at best buy are actually watching everything in limited-range 1080 and broken gamma because some random cable shat up the EDID or the macbook adapter'd into Input 4 forced a downgrade bc HDCP failed or something right
