There's an assumption that the "owning the libs" thing goes both ways. That our values around diversity and equality in particular exist primarily to antagonize and trigger them. We're persecuting evangelical xians, imposing a gay/feminist/whatever "agenda".
They cannot fathom any worldview where their experience and lives are not centered. And this is reinforced by Trump and Evangelical leaders: Dems are persecuting you. And Dems never do anything about that narrative bc they think it's irrational stupid nonsense.
So it's par for the course that irrational people with an inferiority complex think Dems are trying to destroy the economy to "own" them or NYC is imposing covid-19 norms to keep them from enjoying life. Even though neither of these things make sense.
They are being evaluated emotionally, not empirically. And inasmuch as Dems need to counter those kind of narratives, they need to understand that.
