My main focus with my work now is writing from the vantage point of Black people + our history, especially unearthing little known histories to uplift our ancestors & their legacies. I’ve found that media overall is not interested in these stories which is frustrating.
Case in point—I was pitching a story about Tulsa & the race massacres a full year before that Watchmen episode. No one wanted it. And then everyone had a piece about it, almost like it was not a valid story until it became a “timely” topic of conversation. Why?
I thought I had more thoughts to add to this thread but alas I do not. I love Journalism, reporting and working in media but sometimes working in this industry makes me so very tired of the ways things don't seem to change.
