In the past 48 hours I have sent 2 friends to the ER for non-COVID related issues.

Neither wanted to go to the ER for fear of exposure to COVID.

I offered to screen them before they left the house.

They both failed my screen.
Patient 1:

40-something healthy guy

Cellulitis in 3 separate locations, likely MRSA

Fever and vomiting, basically septic.

In ED: WBC count 24, IV antibiotics, CT scan.
Patient 2:

Another 40 something healthy guy

Leg swollen, increased "anxiety"

Tachycardic, shortness of breath on exertion

In ED: multiple PEs on CT, anticoagulated and safe
Our typical emergency medicine patients are out there.

They are avoiding the ERs as they hide from this virus.

We need to figure out how to find them before it's too late.
