The Welsh Premier League began in August 1992; the exact same day the English @PremierLeague kicked off.

Since then, it's taken some casualties, to say the least...
The first ever champions of Wales' Premier League were @CwmbranTown.

The Crows won in Europe and even went on to play @CelticFC, before, and this will become a theme, financial downfall.

They're now in the fifth tier of Welsh football; the regional Gwent County League.
The first club to win back-to-back titles, @BangorCityFC brought a proud history.

They played Atletico Madrid in the sun and Liverpool in the snow.

They even beat Napoli.

In 2018, the Welsh Premier runners-up were relegated due to off-field issues.
Barry were the first Welsh club to win a Champions League tie and the last to reach the UEFA Cup 1st Round proper.

Porto still shudder at the mere name, I imagine.

Within months of a seventh title, Barry hit administration, followed by relegation and an, um, eventful decade...
Ebbw Vale won both Welsh Cup and Southern League silverware in the 1920s.

Within six years of being Welsh Premier founder members, Ebbw were finished. Out. Bust.

Their last game was a European match.
Inter Cardiff played out of where the CCS is today.

They were Welsh Prem runners-up FOUR times.

40,000+ saw them play at Celtic Park, back in 1997.

When their sponsorship dried up circa 2000, the club was essentially swallowed up and rebranded by a university set-up.
Llansantffraid were Welsh Cup heroes in 1996, but their subsequent combo of success and stability contained two notable factors.

One being sponsorship to the point of name change.

The other being leaving Llansantffraid for English soil. A cross-border merger.

Don't ask me! 😂
Our friends at @RhylFC made the FA Cup 1st Round or further some 15 seasons straight, peaking in Round 4!

Welsh Premier champions in 2009, they were booted out in 2010; early victims of the league's 'Domestic Licence' criteria. There'd be others...
Jock Stein's old club Llanelli won every major trophy in Wales from 2008 to 2011, yet were wound up in 2013 over pennies really. 🙈

Representing Wales in sixteen European games seemed to count for jot.

How can we reject these teams, these grounds?
How about @NeathFC?

May 2011: Record crowd. Qualify for Europe in playoff.

May 2012: Not allowed in playoff. Wound up.

Re-live the first bit Friday on #CymruLeaguesRewind!

But seriously.
And then there's @PortTalbotTown.

Good ground (rare)...
Fervent support (rarer!)...

Kicked out of the Welsh
Prem in 2016, then demoted further last year. All off-field.

Even the legendary derby with Afan Lido, gone. â˜č
The Welsh Premier League.
