I’m super on the fence about this Prince tribute. I maintain the best Prince tribute is concert footage. I’m gonna give it a try but I don’t feel good about it.

I don’t hate this performance but I can’t say I like it. I do give HER and Gary points for the guitar work though.

I know it’s impossible to ask people to capture the essence of Prince but all these tributes feel like little kids playing dress up in adult clothes. They’re wearing Prince like a costume and it lacks any genuine feeling or soul.

Middle-aged rock musicians never know how to dress. It’s either trying too hard to be young or dad at PTA meeting. The Foo Fighters is a mix of both.

It feels like if you do a tribute and invite John Legend you get Common for free.
