Reading “Nothing to Envy”— a book about everyday life in North Korea. One of the things that struck me was that in the 90s, recovering from a famine, Koreans started setting up illegal marketplaces, knowing full well they could be sent to a labor camp for an “economic crime”...
These were people who knew absolutely nothing of capitalism except that it was evil and egoistic—as they’d learned through propaganda since birth. They were well trained communists. And yet out of desperation, without any economic expertise, they became entrepreneurs...
It would seem that the principles behind capitalism are innate. Human beings inherently understand supply & demand. It’s communism that must be not just learned—but forced—for humans to “participate.” Funny how fiercely today’s leftist elites insist the opposite is true. But then
Radical leftists don’t care about human nature. They are, just as Kim Il-sung was (& every dictator), interested in re-engineering human nature to fit their ideology. As we can see, defying human nature to push an ideology always ends in suffering.
