While I empathize with the indiviuduals protesting because they just want to have food on the table for their families because they need to work, the images I’m seeing don’t seem the validate the argument.
The Virus has exposed the weakest parts of our system and brought them to full attention. (Healthcare, socioeconomic inequality, etc) The US is not and has not been prepared for anything remotely close to this.
A bunch of heavily armed wannabe soldiers (who likely don’t have the mental fortitude it would take to be a soldier) *I couldn’t do it either* hardly validates the arguments being put forth that they deserved better.
Seemingly many of the individuals who are protesting the very things that would’ve improved their situation (wider and easier access to medical care, economic reforms for the lower and middle classes, etc) are the same individuals who vote against these in nearly every election.
IF a mask was all that was warranted to stem the spread, we would not be having healthcare workers (who are properly trained to deal with their masks unlike Joe Public) continually dying from exposure to the disease.
Social distancing and staying home are the only ways to mitigate the spread until a highly effective treatment that saves lives or a vaccine are created.
It’s further fascinating that many of the protests are occurring in urban locations at prominent govt buildings. Urban environments are the very places that will see the worst of the 2nd wave just as the 1st. The more people interact on a daily basis, the more people die.
I’m not a virologist, epidemiologist or any accredited scientist. These are just my observations as a member of the public who wants as many Americans as possible to stay healthy and alive.
