My university just published the results of over 500 phone calls to students to determine their concerns during online Covid. So amazingly helpful. Students having shipping problems w books to needing scanners & ways to upload drawings & visual work. Insightful stuff.
Students struggling w faculty adding and taking away assignments without letting them know. Some are giving way too many assignments. The work load is too heavy. Lots of students missing face to face interaction. Some students waiting too long for responses.
Some students say they feel like no one is acknowledging how much work and stress this is causing them at home. A lot of students noted giving everything they have but not feeling recognized for it.
Some students made really positive comments about online teaching and quality. Some felt their teachers were working hard and trying to make the transition work. So keep it up. Students are noticing efforts to make online life better.
I would encourage all universities to do something similar. Some students and parents were very excited they were being called & that someone was concerned for their well-being. The feedback from these calls is great. I hope we keep doing it & they keep sharing the results w us.
