THREAD: A couple friends have asked for suggestion for places to donate to if you have leftover stimulus check money, or are just looking for a way to help right now. Here are a few suggestions of groups that are doing amazing work right now!
Central Texas Food Bank could always use the help and is seeing a big increase in demand. You can donate here: https://www.centraltexasfoodbank.org
National Doemstic Workers Alliance @domesticworkers does incredible advocacy work organizing doemstic workers to attain a living wage and humane working conditions. They have a fund to support domestic workers who are unemployed due to Covid. Donate here: https://www.domesticworkers.org
Blue Tin Production in Chicago @BlueTin_Coop is a sewing co-op that employs women refugees, and they have shifted to producing PPE during this time! Support their work here to help them reach their $20K goal: https://www.launchgood.com/project/support_communityled_covid19_response_ppe_production_for_those_most_at_risk
@RAICESTEXAS is doing incredible work as always to free as many people as possible from detention centers in Texas. Support their bail fund here: https://www.raicestexas.org/ways-to-give/donate/
@mutualaidatx UT has a Mutual Aid Collective to help students! College students are hit hard financially and many don’t qualify for stimulus checks. You can support their work by donating to them via Venmo, and checking out their Twitter to provide other kinds of aid.
I’ll be adding more to this thread as I come across other opportunities to help. Anyway, abolish prisons, support Medicare for all, and stay safe out there
