Idk where this image of the forever smiling Supes comes from. Hes not some caricature that always smiles no matter what happens or how horrible the situation.

The one I grew up with was a pretty serious guy. He smiled only when he had reasons to, like being with friends n family

Otherwise he took the whole superhero job very seriously, because he knows that with his powers he has to be constantly careful so that no one ever gets hurt. (Its shown that his biggest nightmare is loosing control of his strength and killing his friends by accident).

Then there’s the whole Cadmus arc, where Lex Luthor used his power and influence to tarnish Superman’s reputation (sounds familiar?) and he got so “frowny” that even Flash commented how much he resembles Batman.

This is not because he’s a “EmoTionLesS eMO” but because he doesn’t take his role as Superman lightly, he knows the impact he has on the world and its people.

But he still has warm moments, like when he invited Martian Manhunter for Christmas at the farm.

The DCEU Clark also has a lot of smiley moments.

But he constantly goes through harsh hardships, hence why the moments where he’s happy have a lot more value and impact than they’d would if he was constantly happy.

Zack Snyder uses darkness and seriousness to emphasize the light and happy moments. He wanted them to be earned and have impact, instead of taking it all for granted.

And this is why I want to see the smiley and confident Superman that SNYDER had in mind.

And I would like to see Cavill’s Superman smile with PROPER lips this time.
