Oh dear, but Ontario will not exempt new and recent Ontario Works applicants. OK that is bad. The exemption is also quite tiny $200 and 50% reduction after that.
So really they are treating CERB the same as earned income. Why would I not claw back? A big reason is that we can use this time to try to help the most vulnerable build some financial resilience so they can break the cycle of poverty.
Further, some will be incurring increased costs during this time. For example, delivery costs, prescription filling costs due to 30 day restrictions, food costs due to production costs increasing and as more and more substitutes have to be made as shortages grow
