Will restrictions in place bc of #COVID19 create (or even exacerbate) gender gaps in law review submissions & publications? #UnequalProfession

Editors in other disciplines say women had fewer submissions in March perhaps due to "all-day minding of children due to school & daycare closures, homeschooling, & the cooking & cleaning associated with having one’s family at home all day, every day." 2/9 https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2020/04/21/early-journal-submission-data-suggest-covid-19-tanking-womens-research-productivity">https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2020...
I& #39;m on record agreeing that #COVID19 will likely exacerbate existing raceXgender inequities with women providing more care at home and in their communities. 3/9 https://twitter.com/meeradeo/status/1251862195241009152?s=20">https://twitter.com/meeradeo/...
Many women had already rolled their eyes at the supposed #productivity of Shakespeare & Newton during plagues--recognizing they weren& #39;t anybody& #39;s #defaultparent, carrying the #mentalload, or performing #emotionallabor while working from home. 4/9 https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/must-we-all-become-more-creative-because-of-the-pandemic/">https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observati...
My book on law profs shows persistent raceXgender inequities in academia including in:
-hiring
-relationships w colleagues
-interactions w students (esp evals)
-tenure & promotion
-opportunities for leadership
-work/life balance

Others have studied gender bias in law review submissions and publications specifically. One new addition is this forthcoming article by @WNicholsonPrice and @harmonslide which found "problematic gender differences in who is being acknowledged." 6/9 https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3552673">https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/pape...
3 hypotheses to start:
1) No gender effects in Feb/Mar 2020 submission cycle (before most SIP orders in effect);
2) Significant gender effects in Summer 2020 cycle (SIP orders in effect + most schools & camps closed);
3) Ongoing gender effects lasting past Feb/Mar 2021 cycle 7/9

Remember too that an increasing number of law reviews now have women EICs. Will that create gender effects? Could this mitigate a downturn in submissions by women academics to these journals? Create a cascade effect at others? 8/9 #5c51606037b9">https://www.forbes.com/sites/elanagross/2020/02/11/the-journals-at-the-top-us-law-schools-are-all-led-by-women-for-the-first-time/ #5c51606037b9">https://www.forbes.com/sites/ela...
An empirical study on gender gaps in law review publication in the shadow of #COVID19 depends on cooperation from EICs. Thoughts on how to do that? Would love to trade ideas on what else to include in this study + how to operationalize it.
