Helluva an #NRA scoop from @timkmak - record of LaPierre laying out staggering court costs. Critics I talked to point to frustration over what they see as needless court battles, but this puts a number to it. https://www.npr.org/2020/04/21/839999178/secret-recording-reveals-nras-legal-troubles-have-cost-the-organization-100-mill">https://www.npr.org/2020/04/2...
I recently talked to Jeff Knox, who is an influential member and critic of NRA& #39;s spending. He was particularly frustrated with how much the group has spent on lawyers. @GunsReporting https://gunsandamerica.org/story/20/04/15/nra-covid-19-pandemic-trouble/">https://gunsandamerica.org/story/20/...
This won& #39;t assuage that concern. I got varying views on how existential a threat the NRA& #39;s current financial woes are to their future, but everyone agreed that they left themselves in a terrible position to withstand the current financial crisis.
Interestingly, Knox, the gun rights advocate and lifetime member of the NRA had the dimmest view of the future: he thinks when the New York Attorney General releases results of her investigation into NRA finances, it could spell the end.
