South Africa: President "Cyril Ramaphosa" today announced an increase to child support and other grants over the next 6 months to help cushion South Africans from the economic effects brought about by COVID19. @PresidencyZA
How the payments will be made:
--2,800 Rand extra in child support grants. Child support grant beneficiaries will receive an extra 300 Rand in May and from June to October they will receive an additional 500 Rand each month.
-- 2,100 Rand for those who are unemployed, in payments of 350 Rand per month for the next 6 months.

--1,500 Rand for all other grant beneficiaries like disability and old-age grants, who will receive an extra R250 per month for the next 6 months.
South Africa monthly grants before today's increase were:

--1,880 Rand for South Africa's war veterans and those older than 75 years.

--1,860 Rand for older people (Over 60 yrs), and people with disabilities.

--440 Rand child support grant per child.
The South African Social Service Agency (SASSA) is an entity of the Department of Social Development responsible for administering social assistance in terms of Section 3 of the Social Assistance Act. It administrates several types long-term grants.
South Africa has 7 types of social grants:

--Older persons grant

--War Veteran’s grant

--Child support grant

--Foster child grant

--Disability grant

--Grant-in-Aid

--Social Relief of Distress ( Temporary grant awarded to people in dire need. Example #COVID19 crisis).

Social Relief of Distress is a temporary grant awarded to people in dire need. Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant of R350 a month for the next 6 months will be paid to individuals who are currently unemployed and do not receive any other form of social grant or UIF payment.
