This is what so far shocks me most about covid19: yes most westerns didn’t react, some weird latent racism or whatever. But this failure to react is *all but deleted from public memory already.* folks 800 million in China were in lockdown by Feb 1. Everyone knew, y’all included. https://twitter.com/ourobororoboruo/status/1252689077893320704
“We ARE ready to act at scale on clear & present risk”: I’d love to think so but this is not what we saw in Q1. *Especially* for climate, given the importance of science-based policy we emphasize all the time, beware of magical thinking. https://twitter.com/khayhoe/status/1246479121930170372?s=21 https://twitter.com/khayhoe/status/1246479121930170372
The image of the interruptor is good, we need to learn critical thinking.

"Responding freely to constant images of fear & violence,...environmental catastrophe, & global destruction demands a reorientation of feeling so that every new impulse is held at a distance" —Scranton '15
"Interrupting the flows of social production is anarchic+counterproductive, like all good philosophy: if it works, it helps us stop & see our world in new ways. If it fails, as it often & even usually does, the interrupter is integrated, driven mad, ignored or destroyed.” fact ✅
I for one interrupt the idea of the interrupter by spelling it -or, it seems.

Not a Sloterdijk fan, but these ideas are worth taking more seriously. Things would be way better if more people learned to think more systematically about deeper problems.
Political discourse still dominated by people saying “let’s do X *after* this is over.” Again for those at the back, no one knows when that will be. Get used to thinking of this not as an event but as one more dimension that adds to society going forward. https://twitter.com/statesdj/status/1252698777296797698?s=21 https://twitter.com/statesdj/status/1252698777296797698
This not to criticize individuals, even if some deserve critical questions. As societies we are unprepared to think in such timescales & to handle risk effectively. This needs to change, to protect us as individuals.
