With white petit bourgeois anti-gov protests across the US, this is the perfect time for some "leftists" to learn some shit. The presence of a protest movement, even if it appears popular and militant, is NOT evidence of specific governmental abuses.
Protest is a tool of political pressure that is organized predominantly by material interests (class, race, etc), and can therefore be aligned with revolutionary or reactionary interests. The character of the current US protests is obviously petit bourgeois and white supremacist
These kinds of reactionary movements adopt "anti-government" or "populist" features (and liberatory aesthetics) when state authority acts contrary to the interests of the reactionary classes and their ideological allies.
The economic shutdown instituted by federal and state authorities is such an action that contradicts the interests of many capitalists. The petit bourgeois white supremacists will always feel most threatened by this kind of political action, and so they take to the streets.
Now, if you can recognize the reactionary nature of these protests, but continue to cite "popular protest" in socialist countries of the global south as a reason to discredit their socialist character, you are being blinded by chauvinist ideology.
