We know there are many questions and concerns from the immigrant community (specifically in our case, entrepreneurs and employees). We empathize with you and are trying to fully understand what this means. Our goal is to keep you informed as we learn more.
This is what we know as of now:
1) There& #39;s no need to panic at this point. Prior to this tweet, there have already been restrictions on non-essential travel and delays in the adjudication process of visa filings. So until more guidance is shared, this is the status quo.
2) Prior to this, USCIS posted guidance saying late extension filings will be forgiven if the applicant can show the late Filing was due to circumstances outside his or her control. While not necessarily for everyone, it shows positive intent for those already here in the U.S.
3) There is a big difference between stopping the issuance of visas abroad (which is mostly stopped) vs. kicking people out of the U.S. and suspending their immigration matters. If you are in the U.S. in valid status, you are protected by the constitution and due process.
4) Similar measures/tweets were shared in the past, so it’s important for us to wait (calmly!) on further guidance to see how this will impact all of us. It is also important to not overlook the word “temporary” as well. This leads to the final point.
5) While any President of the U.S. reserves some power in the name of national security, Congress would have to be involved for more broad, permanent changes.
