I don’t think this framing is right … this bill doesn’t contain any *bad* provisions that Democrats swallowed in exchange for the hospital & testing money they fought for and won.

The bill’s just smaller than it should be, but Dems can’t save Republicans from themselves. https://twitter.com/MikeGrunwald/status/1252668783002411008
The outcome America needs is for Republicans to say “fine Democrats, we’ll give you $1 trillion for [good progressive things] but in exchange we want $1 trillion for [some kind of regressive tax cut]” and then we can make a real deal.
“We won’t give you this thing we both agree is good plus this other stuff we asked for unless we *also* get a bunch of other stuff” is not a viable line to hold and everyone knows it.

Unless the GOP asks for more stuff, there’s no way to get more Democratic asks.
If Republicans were sane, they would ask for Trump’s big payroll tax cut.

Then Democrats would say “no you can’t have a big payroll tax cut unless we also give big help to state and local government.”

Then they could do both and we’d be getting somewhere.
