On March 18th 2020, I adopted Sophie from a local rescue group. She was a curious and sweet little kitty, wandering around her new home like. #CatsOfTwitter #CatsOfTheQuarantine #AcademicsWithCats #FelineInfectiousPeritonitis

1. We were getting used to each other, trying to make the best of the quarantine. I was looking forward to si may days of kitty happiness. #CatsOfTwitter #CatsOfTheQuarantine #AcademicsWithCats #FIP

2. A week ago, I took Sophie to the vet (again), because I felt something was wrong. #CatsOfTwitter #CatsOfTheQuarantine #AcademicsWithCats #FIP

3. She wasn’t herself- the super sweet kitty bonding with my partner, giving me love bites when she had enough of my petting... #CatsOfTwitter #CatsOfTheQuarantine #AcademicsWithCats #FelineInfectiousPeritonitis

4. Even as she was having a good time (I definitely had a great time ) participating in my Zoom class, or watching bird TV, Sophie was getting sicker. #CatsOfTwitter #CatsOfTheQuarantine #AcademicsWithCats #FIP

5. Sophie’s decline was sudden. It was disorienting to see her falling ill- she didn’t chase her beloved crinkly ball anymore... she barely played with the string... she just slept. #CatsOfTheQuarantine #AcademicsWithCats #FIP

6. Today, @seathebass92 took Sophie to the vet, again. He waited outside for over 1 hour, while the vet did tests and tried to figure out what is going on with her. It turns out she may have only a few months left to live. #CatsOfTwitter #CatsOfTheQuarantine #AcademicsWithCats

7. Sophie may not make it to her 1st birthday. She is a sweetheart-she brought us so much joy. The disease that is killing her, #FIP, is caused by #FelineCoronavirus. Most cats infected go on living w/out any issues. #CatsOfTheQuarantine #CatsOfTwitter #AcademicsWithCats

8. Sophie is not one of those cats. She has little time left with us. There is no treatment for #FIP. @seathebass92 and I will make her life as comfortable as possible. We are so grateful she is in our lives now.

9. What’s the most infuriating is that @GileadSciences (yeah, THAT Gilead) have the patent for a drug that could save Sophie’s life,. Yet, these callous fuckers don’t do their jobs, because- I guess it’s not much profit in saving cats’ lives. ... #CatsOfTheQuarantine #FIP
