Hi author friends who are anxiously waiting on #revpit results! We need to talk.
It can be SUPER easy to see your worth as a person and an author as only being valid if you get a request or are picked as an editor’s first choice.

I check my emails multiple times a day, waiting to see a request. I know that I am 1 mss in a pool of 100 for both editors. I know that there are SUPER talented writers that also are part of that 100.
And every time I refresh and see nothing (not even my junk box), I can feel my heart break a little more. It feels like this work, this writing baby, isn’t good enough. That I’M not good enough. And we need to talk about that.
You are more than the result of a lit contest. You wrote a book! And you found the courage to send it to the world and say “Hey. I want to push this dream a little further.” You asked for help! And that takes a lot of guts.
Yes. You may not win. It’s okay to feel disappointment. And if you get a request but aren’t picked, it’s okay to be upset about that too. But look at what you’ve already accomplished.
Your value as a person isn’t tied to winning a contest. Your value as a story teller isn’t dependent on one single person. Your worth as an artist doesn’t boil down to an email.
Now, rejection can feel personal. Especially for something you poured your soul into. But they aren’t rejecting you as a person. They aren’t rejecting your dreams and goals and hard work. The editors have all commented about the high quality of their subs.
And that means you too. But in a world full of editors, agents, readers and writers, you are asking 2 people-just 2- to pick your book as their very favorite for the next 3 months. That’s a lot of pressure!
You’ve done something fantastic. Regardless of the results on 5/4. You deserve more than to base your value on that. You aren’t bad at writing if you don’t get picked for revpit. You’re just a couple steps away from being your very best. And that’s pretty cool.
