Do you support to an indefinite #lockdown, until drugs or a vaccine are found? Btw the normal flu vaccines are <60% effective: https://tinyurl.com/ygmrhugd . Lockdown is causing stress. It's bad 4 the economy. Rich are angry: stock markets are down. Poor are struggling to survive. 1/15
Do you support reopening the economy ASAP only to find a lot of folk die unnecessarily & hospitals are again overwhelmed? Ready to turn a blind eye to deaths 'cause they're old/immunocompromised/diabetic/smokers etc? Will shops/restaurants have customers? Will herd immunity work?
Not surprisingly, very senior folk – most recently #LordMervynKing, the former Governor of the Bank of England – are now calling on the U.K. govt to explain its strategy for managing the pandemic and specifically for how we will come out of the lockdown. 3/15
The #TestTraceIsolate ( #TTI) strategy is, IMO, well worth exploring. Here’s an important thread from a scientist who's actively involved in efforts to make this happen in the USA: https://twitter.com/trvrb/status/1250855512226164736?s=21 & here's their full proposal: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1inQyAzC8eihq2kCz487Xb7dkjNaWtM3uzL_ceNrgpXI @trvrb 4/15
This is another scientist with a very clear explanation of why #TTI is best of the bad options we have: https://twitter.com/firefoxx66/status/1248939530939490304?s=21 @firefox66

It's also backed by leading epidemiologists eg @devisridhar: here's a short interview

But can it really work? Since much of the transmission to occurs in the ~2 days before the onset of symptoms, presymptomatic carriers can’t know if they are contagious. So there's a ~48hr window after an index case develops symptoms to test & alert contacts. Not easy! 6/15
