a thread on why josuke is my favorite fictional character so far
(im mostly gonna be using the anime as a reference point and resource because thats what i first experienced and thats when i fell completely in love with him as a character. also please forgive any typos i make, i dont know how to read â˜ș)
im going to start with his character design. while i do complain about how we never get to see him where any other outfit, this is a non issue for me because i LOVE the way he looks. the sleek purples that cover his whole uniform and how it makes the yellow accents pop, UGH +
& thats just the color. i think hes really pretty, as silly as that is. everyone makes a lot of jokes on how his hair looks like a boot, but it gives josuke this really unique look that i love. i thought he was the nicest jojo to look at before i even started the show.+
and even when the colors swim and the palettes change, he just always looks fantastic to me? im fully aware im probably the most biased person when it comes to this, but come on?
next, i wanna talk about crazy diamond. ill be honest, before i watched jojo, i was never the hugest fan of healer characters in general. its not that i disliked them based on their personalities, i just found myself bored by a very basic ability ive seen a million times. +
but crazy diamond completely changed my initial perception of this. first off, the way josuke cant fix himself was something i found kind of fascinating. not to mention, crazy diamond does so much more than just heal people. i mean he does all the time but he also fixes objects +
to outsmart his enemies in fights, like when josuke made the glass heart homing attack in crazy diamond is unbreakable. josuke is constantly evolving how he uses crazy diamond, figuring out new ways to use his restoration in offensive & defensive ways, its so refreshing to see. +
also theres something so satisfying about watching his stand rush, even more so than star platinum, at least in my opinion. i cant explain better than this image.
speaking of healing, the way he heals his friends and family highlights a gentle, loving part of josuke behind all of that. stands are a manifestation of ones soul. crazy diamonds limitation of not being able to fix himself highlights how selfless josuke truly is. +
when okuyasu asked him why he didnt fix himself when he saved him, josuke just nonchalantly replies with "i cant fix myself. it just means life isnt that easy." +
lets move to his personality because theres a lot to talk about. josuke is an inherently compassionate person and just thinking about it makes me tear up. +
josuke is the kind of person who would risk his own life to help someone who just tried to kiII him.

josuke is the kind of guy who jumped into traffic bc he knew there was just a CHANCE koichi would be in trouble.

josuke is the kind of guy who fixes nosebIeeds with a smile. +
while hes an inherently great person at heart, hes kind of a little shit, which i LOVE. his get rich quick scheme episodes are easily some of my favorite episodes in diu because of the sheer entertainment i get from it. +
he gets his jokey, scammy side from his dad obviously, but i just like it so much better in josuke. it shows that he really is just a kid in a small town, it makes him seem so much more down to earth and real, compared a few of the other jojos. +
speaking of that, i love how his emotions are a key part of his character. while jotaro is way more analytic, josuke is hot blooded and emotional. hes capable of making tactical decisions but cant think straight when his emotions cloud it. and i just kinda love that? +
it makes him seem way more human and flawed. he was in a dangerous critical situation and he just couldnt comprehend leaving his best friend behind, screaming in anguish when he saw him hurt. +
and this applies to his iconic anger too. i honestly tie josuke with johnny as "the worst jojos to piss off." josuke may be the only jojo whos body count only consists of two rats and literally no one else but he condemned angelo to an eternity of suffering bc of what he did. +
ive seen people call him a heartless monster because of what he did to angelo and terunosuke but they did extremely bad things and not to mention, they hurt his friends and/or family. +
another thing i love about josuke is how he loves his friends and family, hed do anything to protect them when the people he holds dear are threatened. josuke charged into rohans room blind, taking sharp pens to the face, just for okuyasu and koichi. +
this leads into his conflict with yoshikage kira, who ill get to next. after shigechi was kiIIed, josuke swore to chase after him and bring him to justice. he even straight up told kira that they were chasing him because of what he did to shigechi. +
kira is my favorite villain and one of my favorite things about kira is his direct contrast with josuke.

even their designs, where josuke looks like a delinquent and kira looks like a simple business man. from the looks of it, people would assume josuke was evil and kira wasnt+
josukes selfless nature directly contrasts with kiras selfish one, who doesnt care about other human beings and would do anything to secure his own piece of mind and lifestyle, even if said lifestyle involves kiIIing innocent people. +
crazy diamond and kiIIer queens abilities even contrast as well, with crazy d being able to fix anyone and anything (excluding himself) and kira being able to destroy anyone with ease. +
now many people think josuke is a very static jojo, who just remains the same good guy throughout the part but i couldnt disagree more.

in the beginning of the part, he let the seniors walk all over him before they insulted his hair. my mans straight up apolgoized to jotaro +
for straight up being born. but as the part continues, josuke grows more and more confident. in fact, lets go huntings main premise was josuke learning to handle the pressure of protecting more and becoming more confident with his abilities. +
but thats not the only development he gets. after the deĂĄth of his grandfather, josuke swore to protect morioh and take up his mantle. the entirety of the part is josuke slowly learning to fill his grandfathers shoes. +
thats why joseph left more without any worry at all, as he was proud of the man his son became. he knew josuke and his friends were more than capable of looking after morioh even though they left. +
