I feel like making people smile today so here are some movies from my childhood that I’ve always wanted to try/gave me permanent food cravings (a thread):
Spirited Away (2001):

So Studio Ghibli has their movies on lock and I could not find the clips I wanted so here’s some screen grabs. Watching this was the first time in my life I felt hungry 😰. Thank you Hayao Miyazaki for everything ❤️
The Polar Express (2004): HOT CHOCOLATE

“HERE WE’VE ONLY GOT ONE RULE: NEVER EVER LET IT COOL” this was a bop! Oh to be a child abducted in the middle of the night by a singing conductor on a magical train to the North Pole 😩❤️
The Cat in the Hat (2003): Cupcakes made from anything

Hands down the best part of this terrifying movie. Idk what it is about mixing a bunch of stuff together that excites little kids but I just really wanted a purple cupcake. I also thought this was peak comedy
ELF (2003): Sweet Spaghetti

So I actually tried this one as a kid. Spaghetti with maple syrup, chocolate syrup, mini mushrooms, m&ms, and poptarts. Needless to say my mother was mortified. Wasting food was not okay in our house so she made me eat the whole thing 🥴
The Little Rascals (1994): I got two pickles

This one wasn’t really a fantastic or shocking culinary moment but the song was catchy and the fact that two pickles brought him so much joy made me want pickles as well.
The Goonies (1985): Baby Ruth chocolate bar

The Goonies is like one of my favorite teen movies. The 80s is my favorite decade of films because hit after hit was produced. I had never had a Baby Ruth bar and this made me want one. Didn’t like it tho. This scene is hilarious
Shrek Forever After (2010): Waffles

Okay so this one isn’t a part of my young childhood but this 1) was funny, 2) the waffles looked bomb, 3) a much appreciated call back to the first Shrek which was released in 2001 so I’m counting this. Eddie Murphy is a comedic genius
Little Nicky (2000): Popeyes Chicken

I have been saying for a long time someone needs to do some research on Popeyes and why we are all addicted to it.
Matilda (1996): Giant Chocolate Cake

I love love love love LOVE this movie. Such a fantastic feel good film. I have very distinct memories of wanting to eat this cake. I was obsessed with chocolate as a kid but now my stomach hurts from watching this scene lol
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005): Turkish Delights

Still don’t know what Turkish Delights are but I was entranced by the magic. I would definitely try these.

Sidenote: Edmund is like top 20 most annoying movie characters
Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (1971): Pure Imagination/The Edible Room

This also was not *my* childhood film but it was one that shaped my childhood! This scene blew my mind. I was in absolute awe. Also Pure Imagination was a perfect song for this scene.
Honorable Mention

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005): Edible Room

This is an honorable mention because it’s a remake/less classical and more campy than the original. Still good and definitely humorous. Great actors. Would still eat everything in this room!
I know there are so many more films I didn’t include but these are my favorites! This brought me back to warm, lovely places ❤️❤️❤️
