I loved the @pmarca "Time to Build" piece b/c I found it inspiring & it left me even more hungry for change. I'm a VC investing in founders building stuff that matters, like some of the fields named in the essay. Most of these companies don't have the zero marginal costs... 1/n https://twitter.com/EggersMatt/status/1250817642476130304
...that typically generate favor from @a16z and other VC blue bloods. To fix housing, transit, and climate change for example we need to build "stuff" and stuff has marginal costs. I'm eager to see if @a16z and other investors will respond to this call to arms...
...with fresh capital, new thinking, and modified VC models that will lead to increasing innovation in these critical areas. I love how @benthompson responded: "We need to figure out how to build real businesses that build real things, not virtualize everything..."
"...And we need to start fighting for not just infinite upside, but the sort of minute changes in cities, states, and nations that will make it possible to build the future." https://stratechery.com/2020/how-tech-can-build/
To preserve civilization and the biosphere as we know it (strong words yes, but with no hyperbole), we must build. There is no other way. For a survey of the "real things" it is "time to build" @shaylekann wrote an excellent and brief list https://twitter.com/shaylekann/status/1251910786668064771?s=20
It is indeed "time to build." Say it out loud - it feels good. As a farm kid from Iowa, building is in my blood. Building is fundamental to the human spirit & to the advance of civilization. The only way to solve climate is to build. I'm all in. @btenergy is all in. #letsdothis
