It is history like this that must be cemented into the education system. When in living memory, our government, the British government, was jamming sand up the rectums of human beings, using tools to cut off human testicles, raping & mutilating women and children. https://twitter.com/dijoni/status/1251738265654161408
When I say the press in Britain is inherrently white supremacist, I don’t mean that all the people that work in it are so. I DO mean that there are people commanding it today that were alive when their mentors buried this history & convinced the world this wasn’t happening.
For the current political establishment and the press that surrounds it is structured in a way where striving for truth comes after striving to hide the violence of its government. It is in the procedure, the hiring and the culture of press behemoths to downplay violence.
To change the very fundamental structures is to change systems in place that celebrated and simultaneously hid the atrocities of the government in power, the military and parliamentarians. Yes, we've come a long way as a country. But the bedrock remains the same.
There were black and brown people in Britain back then, too. There was multiculturalism and diversity then, too. Using these two things as an excuse for how things are not the same is disingenuous, unfair, violent and deceitful. And most of all, hypocritical.
It is easy for those on the left and for progressives to dismiss this as a moral failure of the right. Or an evil not associated with their values or beliefs. But this is not the case, and never has been the case. The conditioning of Britons is unforgivingly encompassing.
Unlearning is a practise that all victims of imperial genocide are familiar with. Yet, somehow, this practise is not applied by British society and that is fundamentally because there is a lack of humility & a debilitating denial of Britain's history of violence. 'Start at home.'
An American friend once said to me: "In America if someone says they are proud of the USA's history of violence, there are plenty of people that would call it out. In Britain, if you are not grateful for the lynching of black & brown people, you are an enemy of the country."
