What to do when your career doesn't match your interests...

1/ Don't get bogged down looking for the "right" career path to pursue.

There are infinite ways to succeed and be happy.

Instead of looking for the “right” path, pick a path and figure out how to make it “right.”

2/ For each of your interests, consider whether you're best served to approach them as a job, hobby, career, or vocation.

3/ Conduct small experiments with each of your interests to see what it would feel like to do them as a career.

Want to know what it's like to be a freelance web developer? Go get one client.

The best way to figure out if you want to do something is to actually do it.

4/ Remember there’s a difference between doing a thing and doing that thing as a job.

Making music is different from building a music career.

Studying philosophy is different than teaching philosophy.

Doing web development is different than running a web development agency.

5/ In order to figure out where you want to take your career next, it’s important to consider how you got to this point.

6/ Every weakness is also a potential strength.

Your scattered interests may feel chaotic, but a diverse set of interests, skills, and ideas can also be a huge advantage.

Look for ways to cross-pollinate and combine your interests to create/attract a unique opportunity.
