It's Day 21 of #Archive30, and time to address one of the major #Misconceptions about the National Library of Ireland - that we only have books. We love our books (and we miss them), but there are more than 9 million other items in the collection!
There are huge quantities of national and local newspapers and periodicals going back hundreds of years - often the only copy of a particular newspaper edition is at the National Library of Ireland.
Our manuscript collections have hundreds of thousands of pages, including letters, diaries, drafts for literature, estate papers, postcards... like this poignant last letter from 1916 proclamation signatory Eamonn Ceannt to his wife Aine.
Over 4 million photographs show us Irish life in three centuries, from the most intimate personal moments to the momentous events of Ireland's history
Our maps are amongst our most-loved collections - not surprising, of course, because so many of them are just beautiful, like this map of Ireland at an unusual angle from 1592.
And speaking of beautiful... we have an extensive collection of Prints and Drawings, featuring images like this fabulous illustration by @PJLynchArt
Of course, there's also ephemera - fragile things like posters and playbills and election literature, that are so easy to throw away but often tell the most fascinating story of lived life.
