My daughter and her neighbor friend spend a lot of the day sitting 6 feet away from the sidewalk, shouting compliments out at strangers who walk by. It's the right mood for these times.
Just overheard: "YOUR SHIRT MATCHES YOUR DOG AND I LIKE THAT ABOUT YOU!"
Just overheard: "YOUR SHIRT MATCHES YOUR DOG AND I LIKE THAT ABOUT YOU!"
- "I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE HAIR UNDER YOUR HAT BUT IF YOU DO IT'S BEAUTIFUL"
- "YOU SHOULD WEAR THOSE SHOES EVERY DAY BECAUSE THEY MAKE YOUR EYES SHINE LIKE THE SUN"
- "YOU SHOULD WEAR THOSE SHOES EVERY DAY BECAUSE THEY MAKE YOUR EYES SHINE LIKE THE SUN"
Oh and maybe my favorite:
"YOUR DOG'S FACE IS ALMOST AS CUTE AS MY FACE FROM WHEN I WAS A BABY"
"YOUR DOG'S FACE IS ALMOST AS CUTE AS MY FACE FROM WHEN I WAS A BABY"
She's 5, so there are occasional hiccups like "YOUR DRESS IS MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOUR SHOES," but the spirit of uplifting is always there.
One passerby asked them "aren't you supposed to be in school?" (in a gently teasing way) and my daughter said solemnly "I go to school on a computer now."
Killed the vibe.
Killed the vibe.
OH and complimenting masks is a major hit: “YOUR MASK COVERS *SO* MUCH OF YOUR FACE I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE! GREAT JOB!”
I love people sharing their favorite little compliments. Share more! A first grade student of mine once told me “your shirt is the color of barf. But you feel better after you barf!”
("little compliments" was meant to mean "compliments from little kids," so that's how well my brain is working these days)
So I told my daughter that people online were enjoying her antics and she looked at me and said “ok... can you read me a book now?” so I read her a book.
If you're a fan of sweet and gentle kids' music, I make that! You can listen here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6Axqi2CIu4eRt4zFQpdNc5?si=zKbbnjGfSb-w4VudNO7jeA
UPDATE: today she's grown tired of compliments, so instead she's yelling about the popsicle she's eating from the doorstep:
"THIS POPSICLE IS FROM MY MOM AND DAD!"
"MY BROTHER HAS A POPSICLE TOO, DID YOU ALSO WISH YOU HAD ONE? BECAUSE I CAN'T SHARE IT"
