<THREAD> SENATE INTEL COMMITTEE VOLUME 4 OUT - W0000T!

Are you ready for redacted fun about Russia's attack on the 2016 election and beyond? Let's rock! https://www.intelligence.senate.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Report_Volume4.pdf
A couple points:

1. Prepare for a lot of redactions. Nota bene, so you don't feel too catfished.

2. Is this why the GOP is trying to throw Burr under the bus more than Loeffler and others for the finance stuff? Just curious.

Let's go.
OK, so what's in the first part???

Oh. It's redacted. A *lot* is still redacted, which means...this is still an ongoing counterintelligence/national security matter.

Which is one of their big takeaways - Russia (and others) never stopped. Why should they? It worked.
OK, now to some meat: what's in this report that ain't redacted all over the place. Well, it reaffirms yet more of what we've heard:
- Russia led an unprecedented attack
- IC methodology was high quality, apolitical

Important, though:
- *Nobody* really cared about "The Dossier"
MAJOR FINDINGS OF THE SENATE INTEL REPORT, VOL 4.:

- Russia attacked us in unprecedented fashion
- Our intelligence tradecraft was good, especially for having little time
- Differences of opinion were honest
- No political pressure on the production of the Assessment
OTHER FINDINGS:

- CIA, NSA, FBI completed Pres. Obama's tasking
- *Info on ongoing investigations were left out* (potentially *voluminous* information)
- The Steele Dossier wasn't used - sorry Devin Nunes
- The report could have but didn't include Russian actions in 2008-2012
One of the main findings here - and it's important when the GOP tries to make the Intel Community look like partisan hacks - SSCI, run by GOP Sen. Burr, concluded that this was *not* a partisan political assessment. At all. Just a professional one.
Section VII: All Together Now, For the Zillionth Time - Russia Used Propaganda and Cyber Ops in 2016 Against the Election and Putin Ordered It, For Trump and Against Hillary
Onto a [REDACTED] deep dive.

Well. We can't see much of this, but the statement is clear: Putin himself ordered Russian intel to go hammer on the 2016 election. And we got many good sources confirming this.
The USIC is emphatic - Russia had never so brazenly attacked American democracy - not even during the Cold War at its height.
Sure Russia had tried active measures for years. But STEALING DATA FROM A POLITICAL PARTY AND RELEASING IT DURING THE CAMPAIGN?

Uh, that shit was new.
EG Note: I hope what's left of U.S. journalism realizes that their uncritical media blitz of stolen campaign emails directly helped Russian intelligence damage American democracy.

The USIC is very clear - this is what Russia wanted. And the MSM helped. Vigorously.
Who was directly behind it? Well, maybe the KGB guy running the whole country?

(The rest is redacted.)
For the zillionth time, yes it was to help Trump and hurt Clinton.
Russia had been practicing this kind of interference for a whole decade in countries other than the US.

Estonia and Ukraine come to mind in particular.
Interestingly, the IC had reviewed Russian active measure at the "end" of the Cold War, 1981-1991, with a fresh product delivered in *early* 2016.
The 2016 review of Active Measures makes since because Russia was ramping up operations - including the now-indicted Internet Research Agency - hard by 2012.
Will Moscow ever stop? Why would they? It keeps working. And the USIC shows that Russia continues its attack.
HERE'S A BIG POINT: The Steele Dossier was *NEVER* part of the IC's actual work. It was a footnote, like, "Hey, remember that thing those guys paid for? Maybe mention it."

SO EVERYTHING ABOUT THE STEELE DOSSIER BEING BEHIND TRUMP'S INVESTIGATION IS HOT GARBAGE.
OK, that was like an appetizer.

Now I want the unredacted Mueller Report. Mmm...
