I sometimes speak as if I hold the first position but if I think about it, I actually hold the second. As does almost everyone, really. So we should stop having a procedural argument (should schools take sides?) and have a substantive one instead (what sides should they take?).
(I am parking for the moment my reservations about the whole enterprise of "school" as understood and organised in Western countries in 2020.)
