When an airline cancels your flight and refuses to give you a refund (very illegal, very uncool), you've got 3 main options:

(1) Hang up, call again
(2) File a DOT complaint
(3) Credit card dispute

Here's how one SCF member got the DOT to pressure the airline (and you can too):
It’s been Dept of Transportation policy for years that if an airline cancels your flight, you’re eligible for a refund. On April 3, after getting thousands of complaints, the DOT reminded airlines that coronavirus doesn’t exempt them from this requirement

When @changobus26 had their flight canceled by United but was having trouble getting a refund he was owed, they complained to the DOT and got the following response, threatening “enforcement action” if the airline doesn’t act soon.
Complaining to a big federal agency about airlines’ poor behavior might feel pointless like spitting into the wind but turns out it can actually have real results and help you get your refund faster.
