This isn't meant to be condescending, I just thought I'd share some info that can help people better understand artists
(thread below)

• Art is a skill. No one gets good at art by pure talent alone
• Art takes a lot of time and effort, and is the culmination of all the learning a person has done in their life. Most commissions aren't too expensive, people just undervalue artists' work.

• Again, art takes time, and artists have lives away from their art. Be patient with artists who may be taking a little long with a commission.
• Just because someone makes somber art doesnt mean they're depressed

• You don't need drugs to come up with bizarre, unusual, or fantastical ideas
• Tracing a drawing for personal, non-monetary use is NOT stealing as long as you acknowledge that it was traced and credit the source

• You can't steal artstyles. Copying someone's style and applying it to your own original ideas takes just as much effort as it did for the first artist
• Artists DON'T all have some secret stash of porn art. Many artists have no intention of drawing porn, and others who have in the past no longer wish to do so.
• Nudity is NOT inherently pornographic. Many artists simply enjoy drawing the human form.

• Drawing anthropomorphic animals does NOT mean they want to have sex with anthropomorphic animals, and especially not real animals
• Many artists are uncomfortable with sexual comments about the characters they draw, especially if it is a character they made

• You dont have to be horny to draw curvy women. Many artists aren't.
• Most artists enjoy seeing fanart of their characters. However, unless made explicitly clear that it is ok, NEVER show people sexual fanart of their characters.

• Excluding for the purposes of an innocent joke, NEVER make edits to a person's art, and especially do not do so in an attempt to "fix" the original piece.
• Again, excluding obvious innocent jokes, NEVER suggest "fixes" for a person's work

• The two previous points may not always apply, but ONLY if the artist explicitly asks for criticism on that specific piece. Even still, be constructive in your comment
• Art is not like memes. Reposting someone's art without crediting them is disrespectful

• If someone draws fanart of a character, do not comment on it saying that you dislike the character. Even if you like the quality of the art, doing so leaves your comment with a bittersweet feeling
• While your intentions may be nice, many artists are uncomfortable with comments comparing their work to someone else's, as it can be discouraging when no one sees their art as it's own thing
