Was thinking this through and then I started laughing out loud because… can you imagine City of Victoria council debating this issue?!
They’d probably get stuck on the GHG emissions produced by the manufacturing of the extra chairs required for outdoor patios, and vote it down. https://twitter.com/robshaw_vansun/status/1252633189459226626
Then there’d be a 4hr debate on whether allowing 8 more chairs outside a restaurant would widen the gulf between the bourgeoisie and proletariat.
Then someone would add an amendment that patios can only serve organic food grown w/in a 2km radius.
Then VicPD would present to council that 20 more officers are required to police patios. Council would cut VicPD’s budget in response.
Then council would vote to delay any decision on patios until the larger issue of homelessness is solved by every level of gov but the city.
At this point it would be 1am and the meeting would adjourn.
The next day, Langford would pass a bylaw to expand patios to sidewalks in 6 minutes.
