When the economy was going strong with record job growth and low unemployment, 7,708 Americans died every single day from all causes.
Every day.
COVID would account for 624 of those deaths per day.
But with 22 million out of work and the economy wrecked.
I know there is a

giant Crystal Ball people look into and say, "But if we didn't do that more would die!" But they don't say how many or how soon that would happen. If our our goal is to save lives then we keep the economy shut down forever. Fewer people working means fewer deaths from workplace

accidents, fewer deaths on the highways, fewer people falling off ladders, drownings, all kinds of deaths can be prevented by keeping people locked on their homes, isn't that so?
But what are we preserving life for if it is not to actually "live" a life. To risk crossing a street

or doing a risky job, or doing anything that entails some risk to life or limb. My grandfather used to say that a man can shorten his life with rich, food, drinking, smoking or gambling(not sure why gambling was in there) but if a Man was not free to make those choices for

himself, he was no more free than a dog is. And right now we are all being treated like dogs, others are deciding what is best for us and depriving us of the full information we need to decide for ourselves how much risk we may take. It may make sense to keep NY City locked down

but it makes no sense to keep Idaho on lock down like NYC. If someone wants to remain cowering in their home fearful of getting sick, the gov't doesn't need to tell them to stay home, they will do that on their own. The retort, "But those who do go out will get me sick!" holds

no water. If you are bunkered in your home no one can get to you to make you sick.
People are rebelling against these lock down orders because their gov'ts did not explain what needed to happen, it Told them. And it keeps moving the goal posts.
First, we had 2 weeks to flatten

the curve.
Then it was one month to flatten it.
Now it is two months to do some other thing.
There are even those saying we should stay locked down for 18 MONTHS until a vaccine is found.
18 MONTHS? Are they fucking nuts?
Either 3 months was always the plan and we were not told

or gov't(really the Experts and Scientists advising it) have no idea what they are doing.
I'm on the side of "No idea what they are doing."
These advisors are academics, scientists, they live their lives looking at germs through a microscope, not at people working as plumbers

and waitresses. They live and work in colleges, labs and institutes very insulated from the rest of us(when was the last time you met a virologist at a neighborhood poker game or a bar?)
They are making decisions within their own insular social isolation. They have tenure and

can't be fired or laid off. Or they get paid by the gov't. They don't own businesses, or have employees or have to make a payroll. We are all just cultures in a petri dish, a chance to advance science, or publish a paper, or win a Nobel Prize.
They have no idea what our lives

are like right now, or how hard we will have to work to get back to where we were in life. So while I don't fall in behind the people protesting in public, I do understand where they are coming from. They were told it would be 2 weeks, which is now stretching into a month, with

rumors that it could be many months. They feel like they got sold a bill of goods by the Experts and the threat to their lives from being broke, starving and homeless they are judging to be greater than dying of COVID which is somewhere between .1% and .3% right now. And they

are not "crazy" or "unpatriotic" in feeling that way.
Every day, Americans are willing to risk dying in car wrecks, falling of ladders, drowning in swimming pools, choking on a chicken wing and dying from COVID is now being added to that list. Those most at risk of dying can

continue to be protected and locked down, but someone has to pay to do that. People have to work, to earn the money that pays the taxes that will protect those at risk and hopefully create a vaccine. And we want to do those things. It's not a binary choice between everyone

staying home or everyone dying. Because it isn't the truth.
Oh, and FUCK China very much for being a backwards, uncivilized country for doing this to the world.
Stop trying to land on the Moon and give your citizens indoor plumbing, ensure a safe food supply so people don't have

to eat bats, rats and dogs. And stop fucking around with Zoonotic viruses in secret when it's obvious after 5 pandemics coming out of your country that you have no idea how to do it safely or responsibly.
And, "Fuck You China", if I haven't already said that.
