When #Coronavirus is over, we will enter another phase which is dealing with the psychological effects of this pandemic. Two of my friends who had severe case of Covid-19 have told me how they are already suffering from PTSD like disorder arising from what they went through while
in the hospital. 1 told me how d thought of dying alone & unprepared with no family members 2 say goodbye scared him to the bone 🍖 marrows. He's afraid of stepping out of his room. He's become so paranoid that thought of contacting Covid-19 again causes him heart palpitations.
Already the healthy among us are already struggling to make ends meets. People are struggling to feed their families & with many reports of people committing suicide 4 unknown reasons. Businesses are going under while govts around world are doing everything possible
to support their citizens & local businesses. The news of Virgin Australia slumping in administration & Debenhams who also is planning to file for administration after #Coronavirus lockdown shows how this already affecting peoples' lives . Both have appox 36000 employees
who might be out of work soon. Families have lost loved ones. I was also told of how a family dad, mum & son who had sickle cell. Imagine the trauma people are going through losing people they love. What is the govt of your country doing to support you at this moment?
What are the plans for post #COVIDー19 era? I suffered a serve trauma which almost took my life in 2014 & I have been suffering from PTSD with symptoms ranging from flashbacks, nightmares, physical sensation such as pain, sweating, feeling sick & anxious. Sometimes I ask
why me? What could I have done better to stop the trauma from happening? This feeling of guilt & shame cause me avoidance & emotional numbing. Hyperarousal which causes insomnia & irritability. While I was speaking to my friend, he mentioned some of these symptoms
which makes me to ask, is treating & discharging patients with severe cases of #COVIDー19 enough? Don't they need support to manage the mental aspect of recovering from this disease? How about those who lost loved ones? @MentallyAwareNG any support especially for support
especially for those listed above? I understand that people from developed countries have support for this but how about those in Nigeria? How do you intend support them? Is there any campaign or public enlightenment going on to make people speak up during this tough times?
These tweets are based on my personal experiences which I have compared to that of my friend(s) who sufferered from severe cases of Covid-19. Mental illness is something people rarely talk about especially in Nigeria 🇳🇬 hence these tweets.
