Things I Didn't Get Space For:
1) Natasha Richardson organised a screening at the NFT in the 90s because she thought it was unjustly neglected (she plays a flower-girl at the wedding in the film; Joely Richardson was somewhere in there too).
2) Also in the 90s, at a Telegraph party, I told eminent military historian John Keegan how much I liked his book The Mask of Command & then I added how much I liked this film & he became so angry at the mere mention of it I worried that he was going to have a heart attack.
3) The film's critics were particularly outraged by Fanny Duberly (played by Jill Bennett) having an affair (including spanking) with Lord Cardigan. They seemed to think it besmirched her honour, even though the real Mrs. Duberly died in 1902. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_Duberly
The death of Captain Nolan, from The Reason Why by Cecil Woodham-Smith.
From Battles of the Crimean War by W. Baring Pemberton.
The Woodham-Smith is from my 1953 1st edition, which has a tatty dust jacket. Can't remember how much it cost, but wouldn't have been much; I've never been a 1st edition collector. There are double spaces after the full-stops, which would drive me nuts if I were reading it now.
