Sigh. Alright it's happening. Let's see if there are any clues to be found. This is all for Ben.
So I know the novel says that Rey made up the voice in her head as a defense mechanism, which is basically the same thing that the TLJ junior novel said, but I think it's interesting that this voice was once again brought up. Rey can't figure out who the voice belongs to so she..
concludes she made it up. That doesn't mean that's the truth. This has been a plot point continuing now through 3 books - for no reason at all? The voice was always tied to Ben and the TROS novel (by Rae) even referred to Ben as a "dream or nightmare" once again.
Not completely sure what to make of this but it mentions the Prime Jedi which is great, as I believe that's what Rey and Ben are. "Two that are one"
It also mentions the Rule of Two which was in the TROS visual dictionary and seems to have originally stemmed from a similar place as the dyad. I think we're going to be getting into these things in a future story. 👍
Not really anything new but more references to the vergence and the "energy" coming from the fissures
Just like in the regular novel, as soon as Ben falls into the vergence Rey can no longer sense him. What happened in that pit!? I would like to know...
I know this has already been talked about today but here are my thoughts. Rey hears this voice again when she's connected to the WBW. It makes so much sense that she hears it at this point, since Ben would be speaking this to her sometime from the WBW...
It also makes sense why she never understood the voice. Because it wasn’t a normal memory from her past. It’s from a connection that transcends time and space. So unable to figure out where the voice came from, Rey came to the conclusion that she made it up to comfort herself...
But she’s an unreliable narrator here. This was just her guess and it doesn’t mean it’s true. There is clue after clue that it was Ben. Seriously just read through @BenSoloalive's excellent thread here. https://twitter.com/BenSoloalive/status/1233935533052547072?s=20
In this paragraph, along with the voice being connected to binary stars (two, like a dyad), it also says that the love behind the voice was not hers. Translation: it was someone else.
This “I’ll come back for you sweetheart” line has now been an ongoing plot point carried through all three novels, twice alone in this book. Basic storytelling says that there is a reason for this. You don’t keep bringing this up if it’s just a meaningless voice Rey made it.
