A thread on the track record of the US President, who just announced his urge to ban all immigration to the United States for the first time in its history.
He campaigned on banning all Muslims from entering, asserting their categorical “hatred” of America. He clarified that he hoped to include American Muslims abroad. https://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/262348-trump-calls-for-shutdown-of-muslims-entering-us

Since then, in two terrorist massacres, US-born non-Muslims have targeted Jews and Latinos.
Now, amidst economic depression, he asserts that barring all immigration indefinitely will create employment for Americans.

A similar policy targeting Mexicans during the Great Depression actually reduced native employment. https://www.nber.org/papers/w26399
That happened because immigrants were the backbone of many industries that employed natives. That is even more true now than it was during the Great Depression.
So what is the track record? A constant, burning desire to eliminate legal immigration, in the best of economic times and the worst.

An explicit disregard for any kind of economic evidence.

And a belief that Americans are gullible enough to trust his bigoted quackery.
