I think we need to talk about our culture of consumption and FOMO. Like why is the response always I need to buy this now? https://twitter.com/yoongkhean/status/1252585100824342531
I'm trying to break down the root causes as it seems to happen at every level of our society... Cant help but think about the way Singaporeans jump on the bandwagon when it comes to even holidays. It's just something bizzarely embedded in our national psyche.
My guess is that these people know that the bubble tea wont bring them that much pleasure. They know that hoarding groceries isn't actually useful.

But there's some underlying inability to accept the marginal loss of pleasure.
I say this as someone whose dad dragged to go queue for Hello Kitty and made me late for primary school. Those goddamn Hello Kitties are still in our house and we can't get rid of them because of sunk cost. This is our national neurosis lol
I think some of you are missing the point of this thread: I really just wanted to complain about the twenty year old hello kitties in my house so pls only like and retweet the previous tweet
@guanyinmiao i need you to boost the hello kitty tweet so that everyone knows my dad has hoarded hello kitties for twenty years

(okay this is a joke request you don't really have to do it.)
